‘THE FALLIBILITY OF HUMAN ABILITY’

In recent weeks the news media has featured the tragic end to the cruise voyage of the luxury liner; ‘COSTA CONCORDIA’ resulting in the loss of lives and the damaged reputation of the ship’s owners.

The final and definitive cause of the accident has yet to be determined, but reports would suggest that some incident of human error may have been a factor in this tragic episode. Here we have a cruise liner fitted with all of the latest navigational technology, but it would seem that a momentary indiscretion on the part of the ship’s Captain may have brought about this train of events.

This story illustrates for us the fallibility of human ability.

Here we have a ship’s crew who would have undergone expert training in basic navigational skills, but no matter how thorough that training may have been, disastrous consequences have ensued.

This year of 2012 marks the centenary of the sinking of the TITANIC; a ship that was considered to be ‘UNSINKABLE’. Human error and misjudgement caused the loss of hundreds of lives.

Sometimes the seas of everyday life can be stormy. We are living in very uncertain times, so many people are fearful as to their prospects and the prospects facing their families. The Christian message is based upon the sure foundation of Jesus Christ as being the One who is steadfast and secure even in the midst of the storms of life.

Why not put your trust and confidence in the One whom the hymn writer describes as the; ‘ANCHOR THAT KEEPS THE SOUL’…
